Bad Breath Causes

Have you ever been in a situation where leaned towards someone to tell him a joke and he turned his head at once? What do you think is the reason behind this? Do you think your friends don’t like you? Or, do you think they just don’t want to talk to you? Well, there can be many reasons, but one of the major reasons is bad breath. Ah, you haven’t thought about it, have you?

It is a fact that many people have this issue called bad breath, but the it is another reality that most of these folks don’t even know they have such an issue. Do you know why? The reason is that when people blow in their palm to test if there is a bad breath issue, they don’t blow air the way they blow while speaking to someone. The air a person blows out while speaking comes from the back of his mouth and that’s why it comes with odor.

Now, it is true that many people are living with this problem, but the question is, what causes bad breath? Well, the answer to this simple question is not all that simple. The reason is that there are different reasons why you may have this problem. Medically, halitosis is the name given to bad breath and you experience this condition due one of the following reasons.

  • Eating Specific Food: Many types of foods contribute to bad breath. For instance, you will experience this problem if you eat onion. It is so because onion and many other foods come with pungent oils that can be a factor creating the problem of halitosis.

  • Smoking: No one today is unaware of the health implications of smoking. However, where smoking gives rise to several issues like cancer, heart diseases, etc, it also contributes to bad breath.
  • Bacteria: In addition to these causes, there is another one, which is the presence of odor-producing bacteria in your mouth. It wouldn’t be wrong to suggest that most people experience the problem of bad breath generally due to these bacteria. When you eat something, the bits of food will always remain in your mouth. These odor-producing bacteria accumulate on these small pieces, which are enough for them to survive. With the growth of these bacteria, sulfur compounds are released in a bigger quantity and that’s when your breath smells like anything.

These are the three basic causes of bad breath. Most people will always have this issue of halitosis mainly due to one of these abovementioned causes. However, it is also important to mention that you can take some initiatives to overcome this problem. For instance, you can keep yourself from eating foods having high content of pungent oils. Similarly, leaving cigarettes will always help you improve your breath odor. And, of course, if you keep your teeth clean and brush them on regular basis, you will be able to deal with those odor-producing bacteria. So, keep these things in mind and you will see some improvement in your breath odor.
